Hua Mulan explores the origin story of the mythic woman warrior in 5th Century China -- a ten-year-old girl who, after struggling to find herself in a world of men, becomes a legendary hero, immortalized for the ages.

Hua Mulan sings of being a "girl child" in a world of men. This song is layered over a montage of agrarian village life as the central character ages from Mulan at 10 (sung by Angeleia Ordoñez, right) to the soon-to-be hero, Mulan at 17 (sung by Alex Humphreys, left), pages 22-25.

These rough demos were recorded at home, as each song's first draft was completed. Except where otherwise noted, you'll be hearing composer vocals for all characters and chorus parts. (my apologies)

The Hua siblings, after having examined the pros and cons of birth order, ponder how they want to reincarnate in their next lives. Pages 11 - 13.
Madam Hua (sung by Ali Ewoldt) has a heart-to-heart with her rebellious ten-year-old daughter, who once again has been caught practicing sword work and martial arts with the boys and men. Pages 16 -18. (Incomplete recording, Mulan's dialogue and singing line to be recorded at a future date.)

Mulan (sung by Claire Kwon) has preserved her family's honor and shown her father, General Hua, what she can do when freed of gender constraints. Pages 40 - 41.
End of Act One, full company number. It's the Mid-Autumn festival, conflicts are set aside, and harmony is restored. Pages 43 - 47.
Top of Act Two - the village is in the midst of preparations for war. Pages 48 - 51.
Mulan, in the guise of her male alter ego, Shi Ping, runs a combat drill with Ji Ping, while pondering the disconnect between her natural talents and her growing unease with her role in the war. Pages 52 - 54.
The cost and loss of war come to the Hua family and the village. Pages 56 - 57.
